MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Test
I have seen an MRI machine before. My father went through it. The MRI was found inside a very closed room called Faraday's Cage. It was built to withstand strong magnetic field and radiation. Before we went to the room, a lot of questions was thrown at my father like have you undergone operation before, do you have any other disease and etc. There are a lot of rules before you enter the room, you cannot go inside without removing any metal objects from your body necklace, bracelets and even belts! He was placed in a large machine and when the test started, unusual noise starts to bother my ear, the frequency is too high my ears can't handle it. Outside the room there is a computer which sees the inside of my father. From there we have discovered that my father had a spinal cord compression probably secondary to nerve sheath tumor C4-C5 incomplete neurologic deficit.
MRI Definition
Magnetic Resonance Imaging test is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to image and the anatomy and the physiological processes of the body in both health and disease. MRI scanners uses strong magnetic fields, radio waves and field gradients to form images of the body.
For an MRI test, the area of the body being studied is placed inside a special machine just like I said with my father that contains a very strong magnet. Pictures from an MRI scan are digital images that can be saved and stored on a computer for further study. The images also can be reviewed remotely, such as in clinic or operating room.
Who Invented MRI?
Raymond Vahan Damadian- Damadian was the first ever person to perform a full body scan of a human being in 1977 to diagnose cancer Damadian invented an apparatus and method to use NMR now called MRI safely and accurately to scan the human body.
Why is it Done?
MRI is done for a lot of reasons. It is used to find health related problem in the human body such as tumors, bleeding, injury, blood vessel diseases, or infection. It is also done to provide more information about a medical problem seen on an X-ray, ultra sound scan, or CT scan.
MRI is really helpful in doctors as it guides them what to do next to their patient . How could you find a cure if you don't even know the problem? MRI does it works and the doctor can now accurately take action whether to do surgical operation or just recommend medicines to take.
